JMIR Bioinformatics and Biotechnology (JBB) is a leading, international, peer-reviewed journal that aims to publish high-quality original research articles, reviews, and perspectives on all aspects of bioinformatics, computational biology, and biotechnology.
We invite researchers, educators, and practitioners to submit their original research articles, reviews, and perspectives to JBB. Our scope includes but is not limited to:
Bioinformatics, including genomic variation detection algorithms, tools, and databases
Artificial intelligence (AI) applications in genomics and pathology informatics, including “Generative AI”
Mathematical modeling in biological systems, including drug delivery and discovery
Genomic data visualization
Network biology
Structural biology and molecular modeling
Drug discovery and development
Microbial genomics and metagenomics
Cancer genomic data analysis
At JBB, we are committed to ensuring that all submissions undergo rigorous peer review and editorial evaluation. Our goal is to provide a fast, fair, and constructive review process that helps authors improve the quality of their work and ensures that only the highest-quality research is published.
JBB will support the development of new bioinformatics analysis tools, novel algorithms, advanced AI-based predictive models, and network biology studies. We would like to foster not only basic science and algorithm development but also translational research studies in the focus areas listed above. We will also explore the use of new technologies for drug discovery and therapy development in cancer and other complex disorders.
While we appreciate translational research studies, JBB will not accept manuscripts that focus solely on medical informatics without a concentration in bioinformatics or genomics. Our objective is to emphasize bioinformatics applications within the realm of medical informatics.
Authors submitting to JBB can expect a professional and efficient publishing process, including copyediting and professional production of PDF, XHTML, and XML proofs. JBB adheres to the same quality standards as our flagship journal, the Journal of Medical Internet Research.
We welcome submissions from researchers, educators, and practitioners from around the world. Please visit our website (https://bioinform.jmir.org/) for more information on submission guidelines and the peer-review process.
Thank you for considering JMIR Bioinformatics and Biotechnology as a venue for your research. We look forward to receiving your submissions.
How to Submit
To submit an article to JMIR Bioinformatics and Biotechnology, please visit the submission page and select the appropriate journal section.
Consult our Instructions for Authors for more information on how to submit a manuscript.
Submissions not reviewed or accepted for publication in JMIR Bioinformatics and Biotechnology may be offered cascading peer review or transfer to other JMIR Publications journals, according to standard JMIR Publications policies. For example, highly technical papers may be transferred or submitted to JMIR Biomedical Engineering. Early-stage formative work that informs the design of future interventions or research may better fit the scope for JMIR Formative Research. Authors are encouraged to submit study protocols or grant proposals to JMIR Research Protocols before data acquisition to preregister the study (Registered Reports; subsequent acceptance in one of the JMIR Publications journals is then guaranteed).
All articles will be shared and published rapidly through the following mechanisms:
All peer-reviewed articles will be immediately and permanently made open access. This is the standard for all titles within the JMIR Publications portfolio.
Articles can be made immediately available in JMIR Preprints (with a DOI) after submission if authors select the preprint option at submission to enable this service.
