Call for Papers: Theme Issue: Artificial Intelligence in Oncology

JMIR Bioinformatics and Biotechnology, a PubMed, SCOPUS-indexed, peer-reviewed journal, is inviting submissions for a new theme issue titled “Artificial Intelligence in Oncology.”

Artificial intelligence (AI) has the potential to revolutionize oncology by enhancing diagnostic accuracy, personalizing treatment plans, predicting patient outcomes, and accelerating drug discovery. Researchers, clinicians, and industry experts are invited to share their insights and pave the way for a future where AI plays a pivotal role in advancing cancer research.

The scope of this call for papers includes, but is not limited to, the following topics:

  1. Machine learning (ML) based predictive models using genomic, electronic health record (EHR), and imaging data in oncology
  2. Natural language processing (NLP) techniques for mining information from real-world oncology data, including EHR
  3. Large language models (LLMs) applying real-world data in oncology research
  4. AI applications in radiology and radiogenomics
  5. Image analysis for tumor detection and classification
  6. AI-driven drug discovery and development in oncology
  7. Innovative clinical trials design using AI or ML
  8. Patient clinical trial matching using AI or ML
  9. Development and applications of AI or ML in digital oncology
  10. Leveraging and learning from real-world data to advance cancer research

Submission Guidelines

We will not accept articles that are solely written using generative AI or other AI tools. For more information, please refer to the JMIR Publications editorial policy and this knowledge base article.

All submissions will undergo rigorous peer review, and accepted articles will be published as part of a themed issue titled “Artificial Intelligence in Oncology.”

All articles will be shared and published rapidly through the following mechanisms:

  • All peer-reviewed articles will be immediately and permanently made open access. This is the standard for all titles within the JMIR Publications portfolio.
  • Articles can be made immediately available (with a DOI) in JMIR Preprints after submission if authors choose to enable this service by selecting the preprint option at submission.

Submissions not reviewed or accepted for publication in Bioinformatics and Biotechnology may be offered cascading peer review or transfer to other JMIR Publications journals according to standard policies. Authors are encouraged to submit study protocols or grant proposals to JMIR Research Protocols before data acquisition in order to pre register their study as a registered report.
