Call for Papers: Bridging Data, AI, and Innovation to Transform Health

JMIR Bioinformatics and Biotechnology, a PubMed- and Scopus-indexed, peer-reviewed journal, is inviting submissions for a new theme issue titled “Bridging Data, AI, and Innovation to Transform Health.”

This theme issue explores the convergence of computational biology, artificial intelligence (AI), and health care innovation. As AI continues to revolutionize diagnostics, treatment, and drug discovery, we invite researchers, clinicians, and technologists to share original research and insights that pave the way for a future of precision medicine and enhanced patient care.

This open call for papers will also accept submissions from the MCBIOS 2026 Conference (March 27-29, 2026, Moffitt Cancer Center, Tampa, FL). Conference participants are highly encouraged to submit their expanded research and findings to this theme issue.

Scope of Submissions

The scope of this call for papers includes, but is not limited to, the following topics:

  • AI in medicine: innovative applications of machine learning and deep learning in diagnostics, treatment modeling, and personalized medicine.
  • Computational genomics and precision oncology: breakthroughs in genomic data analysis, and epigenetic regulation to transform cancer research and treatment.
  • Radiogenomics and imaging: AI applications in radiology, image analysis for tumor detection, and integration of imaging with molecular data.
  • Drug discovery: computational modeling and AI-driven pipelines for accelerating drug development and repurposing.
  • Large-language models (LLMs): innovative applications of LLMs in genomics, bioinformatics, and related data, including analysis of clinical text, tabular data, and web-based bioinformatics tools.
  • Digital twins in healthcare: computational patient modeling, virtual cohorts, predictive simulation, and AI-enabled genomic digital twins for genomics-driven personalized medicine and health care optimization.

Submission Deadline: September 30, 2026

MCBIOS Member Discount

JMIR Bioinformatics and Biotechnology is pleased to offer a 15% discount on the article processing fee (APF) for all articles accepted for publication for which a current MCBIOS member is the first, last, or corresponding author. Authors should mention their affiliation with MCBIOS in their cover letter at submission. Upon acceptance, authors will be issued a unique discount code following verification.

Submission Guidelines

We will not accept articles that are solely written using generative AI or other AI tools. For more information, please refer to the JMIR Publications editorial policy and this knowledge base article.

All submissions will undergo rigorous peer review, and accepted articles will be published as part of a theme issue titled “Bridging Data, AI, and Innovation to Transform Health.”

All articles will be shared and published rapidly through the following mechanisms:

  • All peer-reviewed articles will be immediately and permanently made open access. This is the standard for all titles within the JMIR Publications portfolio.
  • Articles can be made immediately available (with a DOI) in JMIR Preprints after submission if authors choose to enable this service by selecting the preprint option at submission.

Submissions not reviewed or accepted for publication in JMIR Bioinformatics and Biotechnology may be offered cascading peer review or transfer to other JMIR Publications journals according to standard policies. Authors are encouraged to submit study protocols or grant proposals to JMIR Research Protocols before data acquisition in order to pre register their study as a registered report.
